Why should you pick English Literature as your UPSC mains optional is a great debate. In this video I have tried to present a balanced argument in favor of English lit. The primary requirement is the ability and patience to read 30+ original texts. Yes, original texts and not simply university summaries. If you can do that and can write correct English you fulfill the basic minimum requirements. This optional will reward you with not only a good score but a great training in organizing your thoughts, which will help you write great answers in all the other GS and Essay papers.
